Matibini urges urgent mobilization of domestic funding for HIV in SADC

Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini says there is an urgent need for Southern African Development Community (SADC) governments to take a lead in the mobilization of domestic funding for HIV and AIDS.

Speaking when he opened an orientation workshop for Members of Parliament on the implementation of regional, continental and international commitments on HIV and AIDS financing project in Lusaka today, Mr. Matibini says much more has to be done to strengthen healthcare systems to roll out HIV prevention, treatment, care and support strategies.

Dr.Matibini reminded Members of Parliament to always bear in mind that they play a pivotal role in the project because they shape laws, exercise scrutiny of the executive, and represent the constituents.

He states that the SADC parliamentary forum also recognizes the fact that parliamentarians are required to remind government of its commitment to the funding of the health sector and HIV/AIDS programmes in the country.
