Zambia coach George Lwandamina has downplayed the prospect of Christopher Katongo’s return to the Chipolopolo set-up any time soon.

Katongo ended his ten-year exile from the Faz Super League on July 19 when he featured for Green Buffaloes in their 2-1 away loss to leaders Zesco United.

The ex-Zambia captain has not played for Zambia since he was banished from the team last October by former coach Honour Janza.

“He has to play more games at some point. He got tired meaning he hasn’t been so active but he still has football in him that can be harnessed and blended with the young players to make a good combination,” Lwandamina said.

“But he has to work on his endurance levels.”

Katongo rejoined Buffaloes this month whom he played for in 2004 before embarking on an international career that took him to South Africa, Denmark, Germany, Greece, China and back to the PSL last season with Bidvest Wits.

The ex-Zambia captain played the first 85 minutes in his Buffaloes return before he was replaced by Percy Biloyti.

Katongo had one great chance to get on the scoresheet in the 10th minute but his left footed shot was saved by Jacob Banda.
