HH urges HRC to be proactive

United Party for National Development (UPND) President Hakainde Hichilema has urged the Human Rights Commission and other human rights organizations in the country to be proactive in condemning human rights abuses.

Mr Hichilema notes that human rights violations in the country are in the public domain and that it is the duty of human rights organisations to act on such abuses even before people those affected complain.

He however, notes that in a dictatorship, institutions are destroyed and intimidated hence failing to act when they need to.

Mr Hichilema has told QFM News that as a party that has continued to be attacked; they will continue to follow the necessary process such as reporting to the local human rights bodies, international human rights bodies as well as protecting themselves.

He says the abuse of human rights in the country especially the rights of those in the opposition should come to an end.

The UPND leader has further urged the people of Zambia to be careful so that they are not victims of human rights abuses.
