350,317 issued with NRCs in 1st phase of mobile registration

Three hundred and fifty thousand, three and seventeen (350,317) people have been issued with National Registration Cards in the first phase of the ongoing mobile issuance of the national identity documents.

Home Affairs Minister Davies Mwila has told Journalists in Lusaka today that the projected target in the issuance of the NRCs in the three provinces of Muchinga, Central and Northern has since been surpassed.

Mr Mwila says 154, 193 people have so far been issued with NRCs in Central province from the projected 95,000, 92,143 in Muchinga province from the projected 70,000 and 103,981 in Northern province from the projected target of 80, 000.

Mr. Mwila states that despite a few challenges were the officers had to use Zambia Air Force choppers to reach out to the remote areas, the exercise is going on well.

He has since expressed confidence that before the second phase of the exercise is launched in the first week of August everything would have been done with regards the first phase.

Meanwhile the Home Affairs Minister has expressed concern over the pathetic sanitary conditions in Lusaka’s Sikanze Police camp.

Mr. Mwila said this when he conducted an on the spot check of the conditions in the Police camp this morning.

He has since directed the Police command to urgently address the poor sanitary conditions in the Police camp.

The minister also took to task Police commissioner for operations Philemon Mutale to explain if he was aware of the serious challenges officers were living under which have a serious impact on the health and performance of the officers.

Mr. Mwila also discovered that the officers and their families do not have water in their houses, but all use one borehole and the majority of the families go to draw water illegally from the nearby government offices.
