Power deficits will increase trade of imported finished goods – Dodia

Economic analyst Yusuf Dodia has observed that the power deficit being experienced in the country will in the short term induce an increase in the trade of imported finished goods in Zambia.

Mr. Dodia says companies involved in the business of processing raw materials into finished goods for sale will do this as a way of cutting down on dependency on electricity.

He has told Qfm News that he also foresees some companies removing machinery that depends on electricity and replacing it with machinery that can use diesel or other forms of energy.

Mr. Dodia says this is in effort to reduce their focus on using electricity to almost zero.

He says this entails that most businesses in the country will have to go back to the drawing board and analyze how they will survive in the remaining five months of their 2015 financial year business plans.
