Post boss M’membe granted K30,000 cash bail

Post newspapers Editor –in-Chief Fred M’membe and Reporter Mukosha Funga have been granted cash bail in the sum of thirty thousand Kwacha each in the case in which they are facing the charge of publication of classified information in breach of the State security Act.

Delivering ruling on an application for bail this morning, Lusaka Magistrate Humphrey Chitalu noted that the offence which the accused are facing is bailable even though the matter falls under the jurisdiction if the High Court.

Magistrate Chitalu in granting the duo bail asked them to provide two sureties of fixed abode in the like some of thirty thousand Kwacha each as the bail conditions.

He has since set 17th August 2015 as the date for mention.

The duo has been charged in connection with a story published in The Post newspaper edition of April 17, 2015 in which it was reported that Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) director-general Rosewin Wandi had written to President Lungu informing him that the commission was investigating his special assistant for political affairs Kaizer Zulu for allegedly soliciting US$200,000 from a Chinese contractor in order to fix an appointment for him with the President.

Meanwhile the case in which Kabwata aspiring Member of Parliament Clement Tembo and others have sued the Lusaka city council and Chinese contractor Hua Feng Construction Limited over the redevelopment of the Libala basketball court has been adjourned to 12th August 2015 by High Court Judge Petronella Ngulube.

This is after the first and second defendants raised preliminary issues and asked for an adjournment.

They cited late service of summons and also asked for time to study the case.
