Mucheleka takes a swipe on civil society

Lubansenshi independent Member of Parliament Patrick Mucheleka has taken a swipe on the civil society for not doing enough to hold government accountable on various governance issues affecting the country.

Mr. Mucheleka who is former CSPR Executive Director notes that the civil society has not been very active in speaking out on behalf of the voiceless Zambian people since the PF came to power.

He states that many are the times when government has completely failed to justify its failures to address very critical issues, yet the civil society has remained mute.

Mr Mucheleka points out that Zambians have continued to wallow deeper in abject poverty as a result of the continued high cost of living with many family failing to afford a descent meal.

He says it is the duty of the civil society to press government to come up with strategies to stabilize the economy.

But the Zambia Council for Social Development (ZCSD) has defended the civil society organisation saying they are doing their best to provide checks and balances to the government.

ZSCD Executive Director Lewis Mwape however states that Mr Mucheleka’s observation is appreciated and will be taken into consideration.
