HH narrates Kitwe attack ordeal

UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema has narrated how suspected PF cadres who attacked his entourage in Kitwe yesterday while armed with all sorts of dangerous weapons had the clear intention of cause maximum harm.

Mr Hichilema says the attackers who followed them to Moba Hotel after aborting a scheduled appearance on Radio Ichengelo turned the hotel into a battle ground with live ammunition being fired right inside the hotel corridors.

He says their hotel rooms were filled with teargas smoke until the attackers were eventually overpowered and guns were confiscated from them.

Mr Hichilema says this situation coming at a time many families are facing depressing times due to economic challenges that needs urgent address is very unhealthy for the country’s yHH 2oung democracy.

He states that one would have thought such a scary movie like situation would be a battle ground for ideas on how best and quickly the country can join hands to tackle the economic challenges.

Mr Hichilema says the challenge now is for those in leadership to stop and address this situation as the country heads to next year’s elections, especially as evidenced in the recent bye elections.

He adds that it is even a bigger challenge for those in government who control and command state security apparatus to treat all citizens fairly regardless of their political opinions.

Meanwhile Copperbelt Police Commissioner Joyce Kasosa says he has not received full details on the attack on UPND Leader Hakainde Hichilema and his entourage in Kitwe last evening by suspected PF cadres.

Copperbelt province Commissioner of Police Joyce Kasosa has told Qfm news by telephone that she has only received scanty information on the matter.

Mrs. Kasosa has however stated that certain information indicates that there was some commotion at some unknown place in Kitwe which led to Police firing teargas.

She says she is personally traveling to Kitwe to get the full details of what exactly transpired.
