Govt assures of strategic food reserves

The office of the Vice President has assured the nation that there are sufficient strategic food reserves in the country for any citizen to starve.

Deputy Minister in the office of the Vice President Chungu Bwalya says areas such as Kazungula District, where hunger has been reported will be adequately supplied with relief food.

Mr. Bwalya says the people of Kazungula should therefore not worry that the 50 metric tonnes of maize sent to the area under the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (UNIT) is not sufficient.

He explains that the 50 metric tonnes of maize that has been sent to Kazungula District is only the primary response to the food shortage situation in the area.

Mr. Bwalya says government will ensure that the people of Kazungula and other areas affected by th poor rainfall get the food they need at the right time.
