The Private Sector Development Association (PSDA) has also advised government to start being proactive in investing in newer power plants along the various rivers that the country has.

PSDA chairperson Yusuf Dodia is encouraging government to rely on the already done assessment by ZESCO that the country has about 6000 megawatts of new hydro-power generation opportunities and capacities.

Mr. Dodia says his organization foresees that if the country does not begin to think in the lines of investing in power generation now, given the continued demand, the county’s economy will be impacted negatively.

He has told Qfm News that the capacity of Zambia’s economy to grow will be undermined in the long run because all electricity dependant sectors will be affected negatively.

Mr. Dodia has referred to Agriculture, Mining and Tourism as some the electricity dependant sectors that are prone to being affected by power deficits.

He says power deficits as the country is currently experiencing also means that in the long run huge investments in these sectors will be held back.
