The Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) has cautioned politicians to be careful with how they handle certain issues which have the potential to divide the nation.

CCZ President Bishop Alfred Kalembo has emphasized that politicians must at all cost avoid promoting tribalism in the country because it has potential to divide the people.

Bishop Kalembo has reminded politicians to always be mindful that Zambia is a unitary state and nothing should threaten that status.

He says there is need for political leaders and the concerned parties to sit down and talk things out regarding the emerging issue of people from Southern Province calling for the province’s secession.

Bishop Kalembo has since encouraged political players to ensure the ‘One Zambia One Nation’ motto is alive by promoting peace and unity in the country.

And Every Home for Christ Regional Director Dr. Bishop Richard Kakuwa has advised politicians to be careful and censor their statements before setting the nation on fire.

He says politicians should be in the forefront promoting unity in the country.

Dr. Kakuwa says the issue of secession should be the least talked about considering that the country has not fully dealt with the Barotseland Agreement of 1964.
