YALI dissappointed CBU has been closed indetinitly

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) has expressed disappointment with Government’s move to indefinitely close the Copperbelt University (CBU).

YALI President Andrew Nthewewe says the closure of the University demonstrates high levels of irresponsibility by the government.

Mr Nthewewe says the closure of the Copperbelt University will adversely affect the students who were looking forward to progress in their courses.

He states that had government been a little more responsible and pragmatic, the situation would not have resulted in the closure of the university.

Mr Nthewewe laments that government had to resort to the closure of the university when it had other options.

He says Education Minister Michael Kaingu should be ashamed of himself that things at higher learning institutions in the country have gone from bad to worse under his leadership.

Mr Nthewewe notes the need for government to prioritize education and address challenges the sector is facing, stressing that education is the key to the country’s economic growth.
