The opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) says as the country commemorates Unity and Heroes Days there is need to have a foundation of good governance by way of having the new people driven constitution with proper protection for the human rights.

UPND President Hakainde Hichilema in a statement says following independence, the country was built brick by brick on the belief that to grow Zambians needed to cast aside tribal stereotypes and instead highlight all the qualities people share.

Mr. Hichilema says Zambia is one of few African nations that does not have the burden of inter-tribal violence and animosity, saying he is proud to be a Zambian.

He says UPND has a strong vision for Zambia, a vision of a united, prosperous and equitable Zambia.

The UPND Leader believes that his party’s policies and practices will foster the solidarity Zambians need to drive the great nation forward.

Mr. Hichilema adds that in order to continue moving forward together and to protect the unity as a nation, the people must employ several different tools.

He says one of the tools include having an open and transparent government that does not shy away from criticism and that can be held to account by the people, the media and civil society.
