The Movement for Multiparty and Democracy (MMD) youths have charged that it is irresponsible and unfair to blame President Lungu’s administration for the current load shedding that the country is experiencing.

MMD Youth National Secretary Bowman Lusambo says President Lungu has only been in office for six months and it is unreasonable to expect him to rehabilitate, upgrade and up rate an old power station like Kariba in his short stay in office.

Mr. Lusambo says the current problems at ZESCO are historical citing that what is happening is a result of failure to plan by past administrations including their very own MMD administration.

He emphasizes that past administrations lamentably failed to invest in upgrading power generation capacities even as the economy was expanding noting that for many years, ZESCO was treated as a cash cow for those in government siphoning money out of the corporation without planning for the future.

Mr. Lusambo adds that if anything, the current administration ought to be commended for taking practical steps to improving the power generation capacity at Kariba, Victoria Falls and commencing work on the Itezhi Tezhi and Kafue Lower adding that all these projects once completed will undoubtedly help resolve the power supply crisis in the nation.

He has appealed to the government to seriously invest in developing renewable energies as alternative sources of power stressing that Zambia is best suited to explore its tremendous solar energy potential.

Mr. Lusambo says the nation should also start looking seriously at developing thermal power an alternative to hydro energy.

He has further called on all well meaning citizens to join hands with ZESCO to conserve power by adopting lifestyles that help conserve power.
