The Zambia Republican Party (ZRP) says it will take all necessary measures to defend opposition parties’interest in the country if the PF Government goes ahead to present a bill to regulate the conduct of all opposition parties.

ZRP President Wright Musoma says the planned move by the Justice Minister to present the bill reflects a shift in tone and engagement by President Edgar Lungu’s administration in defending sound justice and democratic pillars left by the late President Michael Sata.

He has urged the PF  Government  to  ensure  that steps  are undertaken  to  safeguard  the democratic integrity  of their  programmes.

Mr. Musoma charges that what they are about to do is a direct oversight that the Zambia Republican Party considers a threat to tenets of democracy in Zambia.

He says they think there are still some questions about how this is going to play out citing that while the Zambia Republican Party is keen to work around a common agenda and common interest with the Patriotic Front Government at both local and national level, going ahead to present such a bill in Parliament cannot be the best option to ease the pressure on   Government’s ability to deliver expected policy initiatives aimed at developing the country.

Mr. Musoma furthermore states that as Republicans, they will remain firm on these issues and condemn in strongest terms such a move as it borders on infringements of the rights of opposition political Parties.
