Special Assistant to the President for Project Monitoring and Implementation Lucky Mulusa says the rationing of electricity by ZESCO is only a safety mechanism that the country has to save electricity.

Speaking after touring the ZESCO Kariba north bank power station in Siavonga yesterday, Mr. Mulusa says the reason that ZESCO has given the people of Zambia has the reason for the country wide load shedding is true.

He however notes that it is sad that ZESCO and government depended on the information given to them by the meteorological department which anticipated normal rainfall but unfortunately things did not turn out as anticipated.

Mr. Mulusa has appealed to the people of Zambia to bear with ZESCO and understand that what has happened is beyond their control as there is nothing they can do about it but preserve the little water that is there.

And speaking earlier, ZESCO Kariba Bank North Power Station Manager Samuel Sinkala says the rainfall which is their source of water received in the 2014/15 rain season in the Zambezi catchment area did not generate enough river flows citing that the level in the lake is lower than the normal operation hence reduced power generation to 500 mw from the normal 1050mw.

He has urged the general public to support the limitations or load shedding exercise and the switch and save programme citing that failure to safeguard the little water in the lake may result in shutting down the plant.

Mr. Sinkala further states that it is their prayer that come December, the country shall have normal rainfall.
