FODEP urges huge turn out in by-elections

The Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has appealed to voters in Malambo, Petauke central and Mulobezi constituencies to turn up in numbers tomorrow and elect their own preferred candidates.

FODEP Executive Director Macdonald Chipenzi in a pre-election statement says voters should disregard all philanthropies that politicians advance to them ahead of the by-elections.

Mr Chipenzi adds that FODEP is concerned that those mandated to enforce the electoral code of conduct have remained distant from its effective enforcement during the campaigns.

He wonders where is the Police, ACC and ECZ are when breaches of the electoral Code of Conduct are being committed by players in the electoral process despite the mandate given to them under Electoral Act, No. 12 of 2006.

Mr Chipenzi says the repeated use of government development project such as roads, schools,
health posts and chiefs’ palaces construction and crop marketing by the government to win votes should be stopped with and Electoral Commission of Zambia coming handy on this matter.
