ECZ has no control over parties beyond campaigns – Akufuna

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says the commission has no control over political parties outside the campaign period.

ECZ public relations Manager Crispin Akufuna says the commission therefore cannot do anything with regards the placing of a political advert for President Edgar Lungu by the PF in the media.

Mr. Akufuna says the commission can only control political parties once it has come up with an election timetable and has declared a campaign period.

He states that anything that happens outside the campaign and election timetable, the commission cannot do anything about it.

Mr. Akufuna adds that the commission can only guide political players during a campaign window on the dos and don’ts.
