Opposition MPs urged to support constitution amendment Bill

The Patriotic Front in Kitwe district has appealed to all the opposition Members of Parliament to support the constitution amendment bill when once table in Parliament.

PF Kitwe District Information and Publicity Secretary Christopher Kang’ombe says this is considering the fact that non-contentious issues need to be included immediately in the republican constitution without any further delay.

Mr. Kang’ombe says it is the role of all Members of Parliament whether from the ruling party or the opposition to help the country make progress on the constitution making process.

Mr. Kang’ombe, who is also Riverside PF ward Councillor, explains that Parliament remains the only institution empowered under the current constitution to change any part of the republican constitution.

He notes that the ruling party does not have the two thirds majority in Parliament which translates inti0 106 MPs to pass constitution amendments single handedly.

Mr Kang’ombe states that the opposition as key stakeholders must therefore acknowledge their duty to the nation in seeing to it that agreed upon constitutional amendments are passed.
