No known Zambian fell victim to SA xenophobic attacks – Kalaba

Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba says no known Zambian national fell victim to recent xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

Mr. Kalaba told parliament this afternoon that the Zambian High Commission in Pretoria was instructed to advise all Zambians living in South Africa to avoid violence prone areas to avoid being victims of xenophobic attacks.

Mr. Kalaba says during the xenophobic attacks, staff from the Zambian mission were deployed to Durban to assess the situation and rendered possible support to Zambian nationals living in that country.

He adds that similarly, Zambians traveling to that country particularly cross boarder traders, were strongly advised of personal security when traveling to South Africa.

Mr Kalaba has since advised Zambians traveling to South Africa to avoid patronizing violence prone areas in view of the recent xenophobic attacks on foreign nationals.
