The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has been called upon to pay closer attention to the continued trend by government to take development to areas where elections are being.

The Southern African Center for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD) is urging the ECZ to do this especially when other political stakeholders raise concerns.

SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe says this is because such maneuvers by government work against creating a leveled playing field as this is viewed as a way to induce voters.

Mr. Cheembe who is leading a SACCORD election monitoring team to Malambo and Petauke Central constituencies has told Qfm News by telephone that his organization thinks developmental projects should take place outside political campaigns.

He has also called on all political parties taking part in the Petauke Central Parliamentary by-election to stick to issues in their campaigns.

Mr. Cheembe has further called for continued peaceful campaigns ahead of the June 30th parliamentary by-elections.
