PMRC calls for coordinated approach to ending child marriages

Policy Monitoring and Research Centre (PMRC) has called for improved coordination among civil society organizations and government to provide for a progressive harmonized and coordinated approach to ending child marriages in Zambia.

PRMC Executive Director Bernadette Deka in a statement says to this effect, PMRC calls for enhanced coordination among Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and government to provide for a progressive and synchronized methodology to ending child marriages.

Ms Deka adds that there must also be improved monitoring of goals and objectives that have been set to end child marriages.

She further states that above all, Government must work relentlessly to address the social and economic factors such as poverty levels that have led to child marriages, especially in rural areas.

Ms Deka says PMRC is hopeful that, with unrelenting and increased awareness on the hazards of child marriages especially in rural areas, Zambia will continue to make significant strides towards the prevention of child marriages.
