The Islamic Supreme Council of Zambia (ISCZ) has expressed concern at the rate at which some politicians are degrading the office of the Republican Presidency.

Council President Suzyo Zimba has told QFM News in an interview that the office of the Republican President should be respected by all people despite their status in society, political affiliation or religious beliefs.

Mr. Zimba says it is sad that some politicians want to be popular by insulting Republican President Edgar Lungu, the situation he has described as disheartening.

Mr. Zimba states that Zambia is a Christian nation and thus the fruits of being a Christian nation must be seen by respecting leaders who are elected by the majority people.

He says people in office are human beings who can make mistakes and that should not be a tool to start degrading them.

He adds that it is not part of the Zambian culture to insult leaders and thus the need for all people to respect leaders.

Mr. Zimba has since called on some politicians, whom he has referred to as briefcase politicians, to respect President Lungu saying he deserves to be respected by all people.
