Msoni blames fiscal indiscipline for budget deficit

The opposition All People’s Congress (APC) says huge deficits incurred in the six months of Zambia’s 2015 financial year boils down to lack of fiscal discipline under the Patriotic Front (PF) government.Msoni

APC president Nason Msoni says his party has taken note for a long time that the PF government has proved to be lacking fiscal discipline emanating from lack of effective supervision.

Mr. Msoni says the deficits that have caused a mid-year review of the 2015 national budget are as a result of the huge unplanned for delegations of government officials that have been traveling abroad.

He has cited the recent delegation of government officials that accompanied President Edgar Lungu to China as one of such huge delegations which he alleges comprised of more than 200 officials.

Mr. Msoni has wonders the essence of carrying such huge delegations when Zambia has diplomats in those countries.

He says he does not think that this is prudent management of public affairs and public resources that the country should have such huge budget deficits arising from huge government delegations traveling abroad.
