Chewas express shock at Govt apology to Chief Mpezeni

Chief MPEZENI

The Chewa Heritage Foundation has expressed shock that Government has apologized to Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni for doing the correct thing by cancelling a meeting he was supposed to address in Chipangali.

Foundation national Chairman James Chirwa says government did a commendable thing by cancelling the meeting in Chipangali.

Mr Chirwa says Chipangali, the area where the aborted meeting was supposed to be held is Chewa land shared by Chief Chinunda,Chief Chanje and Mwasempangwe.

He explains that Paramount Chief Mpezeni only sought refuge in the area.

Mr Chirwa says the move by the Police to stop the meeting was the right thing to do, pointing out that the Chewa people feel insulted that Paramount Chief Mpezeni can go and install a councilor in Chewa territory.

He adds that the action taken by the Police should not come as a surprise because the provincial leadership had been advised that the Ngoni meeting should not go ahead citing security reasons.
