Government says the strike by Zambia Railways workers demanding payment of their dues who worked under the former Railway Systems of Zambia (RSZ) is unnecessary.

Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Deputy Minister Richwell Siamunene has told QFM News in an interview that government is clear over this issue that it is in talks with the Ministry of Finance to pay the former RSZ workers their monies.

Mr. Siamunene says there is no dispute whatsoever between government and the former RSZ workers and has since appealed to the striking workers to return to work.

He says workers should understand that they are disrupting the economic activities by their strike action.

Mr Siamunene explains that three quarters of workers who served under RSZ were employed and that government put a priority of paying those who were relieved completely.
