Kitwe-Chingola road contractor asks for payment of outstanding K108M

SINO HYDRO the company contracted to work on the Kitwe-Chingola road has appealed to Government to urgently pay the outstanding amount of over K108 million to help them complete the project within the stipulated timeframe.

SINO HYDRO Director General Peng Zhaohui says it will fair for government through the Road Development Agency (RDA) to consider releasing some funds as agreed in the finance contract which in part states that in order to undertake the Kitwe – Chingola road construction project, the two parties had to equally contribute money towards the project.

Mr. Zhaohui explains that Sino hydro financed the project with US$3 million (K22 million) from its headquarters in China in May 2015 to undertake kerb fabrication and installation, maintaining the existing road, and also undertake some small works in Chingola town.

He states that the total amount pre-financed by Sino hydro for the project to date stands at K108 million.

Mr Zhaohui says despite the delay by government in resolving the issue of payment, the company has gone ahead with the road construction works and will continue to remind government of the funds to help pay workers on time.

But Works, Supply, Transport and Communications Minister Yamfwa Mukanga says he is aware of the situation and government will soon pay the contractor.

Mr. Mukanga has since stressed the need for contractors never to rush to abandon projects due to delayed payment.
