Zambian Voice Executive Director Chilufya Tayali has charged that the leadership of United Party for National Development (UPND) is lukewarm when it comes to condemning violence perpetrated their party.

Mr. Tayali says while the ruling PF and the UPND are the ones who are mostly involved in political violence, the later seem to be less willing to take responsibility for their violence acts.

He says the UPND President Hakainde Hichilema could not even condemn the attack on him that happened before him at Cresta Golfview Hotel which has landed some UPND cadres in trouble as the case is in High Court.

He adds that political leaders should be blamed for inciting poor people to engage in violence while they watch from afar and deny responsibility.

Mr. Tayali tells QFM News in a statement that the violence that happened in Machile, Mulobezi constituency must be investigated to make sure the perpetrators of violence are punished.

Mr. Tayali says his sources in the area have revealed to him that the United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres ambushed the Secretary General of Patriotic Front Davies Chama in Mulobezi constituency.

He says he has confirmed that the police have impounded a Toyota Hilux D4D registration number ALD 9469 allegedly belonging to the UPND campaign manager Siyanga Siyauya, who is also Sesheke Member of Parliament.

He explains that it is alleged that some items of violence were found in the said car for Mr. Siyauya which is currently in police custody because he is believed to be the mastermind of the ambush.

Mr. Tayali has since urged the UPND to change their attitude and take responsibility of the violence if they are going to stop their cadres from engaging in violence.

And 2016 Munali Member of Parliament aspiring candidate Patrick Mungo says the people are tired of hearing the same violent attacks during campaigns and calls on political leaders to discipline their cadres.

Mr. Mungo believes that the solution lies in political leaders taming their cadres and educating them on the dangers of violence.
