Sub-Chief Natende of the Bwile people of Chiengi District, Katele Kalumba has proposed the establishment of another House in Zambia, equivalent to British House of Lords.

Sub-Chief Natende is of the view that this House should however be given a different mandate of being the custodian of the fundamental customs, traditions and conventions of the country.

He has told Qfm News in an interview from Chiengi that the establishment of such a House should be with the view of contributing to the constitutional understanding of governance in Zambia.

Sub-Chief Natende states he is proposing the establishment of this House because he does not think traditional leaders should be presently allowed to engage in active politics.

He says this is because traditional leaders already provide customary leadership.

The traditional leader notes that allowing chiefs to engage in active politics cannot guarantee the integrity they are traditionally accorded.

He says his prayer therefore is that traditional leaders in Zambia continue using their existing institutions that are guaranteed in the country’s constitution.
