Return to work,Govt tells UNZA lecturers

Government has appealed to University of Zambia academic staff who are on go slow to return to work as their demands are being looked into.

Education deputy Minister Sydney Mushanga says government is aware that any go slow or strike has a negative impact not only on the students, but on the economy of the country as a whole.

Mr Mushanga says government is therefore doing its best to come up with a lasting solution to the challenges the country’s highest learning institution is facing.

He says there is therefore no need for lecturers to continue with their go slow as government is looking into the issues they have raised so that the university can continue to provide quality education and produce students who will be able to contribute to the economic development of the nation.

Mr. Mushanga states that government will continue to fund the University, but that the university workers should understand whenever there is a delay in funding.

The lectures at the university are demanding that UNZA management pays with immediate effect contractual obligations in terms of terminal benefits, gratuity and excess teaching fees among other demands.
