Govt committed to review Mental Health Act – Kasonde

Government says it remains resolute to ensuring that the Mental Health Act is taken to parliament for review as the house resumes it’s sitting this month.

Health Minister Dr. Joseph Kasonde says the document is ready and the Ministry is simply waiting for authorization from Cabinet.

Dr. Kasonde says the intention is to review the Act to align it to the current mental health issues.

Dr. Kasonde explains that there is a long list of items to be tabled before Cabinet the reason why it has taken time for the Act to be given the attention it deserves.

He says his ministry has put everything ready to ensure that the Act is revisited in the coming parliamentary session.
