Zanaco open seven-point lead

Zanaco have opened a seven-point lead at the top of the Faz Super League table after a 2-0 home win on Wednesday in their Lusaka derby clash against Red Arrows.

The result left Zanaco as the only unbeaten team in the league this season after second placed Zesco United tumbled at home to Nkwazi in Ndola.

Goals from Moses Phiri and Aubrey Funga secured the six-time champions’ eighth league victory of the season from eleven games played.

Phiri put Zanaco 1-0 into the break at Sunset Stadium when he turned in Fackson Kapumbu’s throw-in.

Funga cemented the three points for the home side in the 54th minute when he guided in Charles Zulu’s cross.

Zanaco move up to 27 points while Arrows stay put in 11th position on 11 points from nine matches played with two games in hand.

The league leaders win was also sweet revenge over Arrows who beat them 4-0 on the final day of the 2014 season last November away at Nkoloma Stadium on their way to finishing the campaign in 3rd and 8th spot respectively.

Wednesday’s win also handed Zanaco their third win on the trot since drawing 1-1 away to Nkana on May 16 in Kitwe.

Meanwhile, Zanaco are chasing their first league title since 2012.
