Political analyst Neo Simutanyi has observed that time is now right for Zambia to enact a law to control political party campaign financing.
Dr. Simutan
yi says this law whose enactment he personally supports should provide that government be the one to fund political party campaigns during elections.
He has told Qfm News in an interview that this law should further provide that any other funds a political party manages to source for its campaigns must be publicly declared.
Dr. Simutanyi says this law is necessary because it has presently become very difficult in Zambia for political parties to account for funds they use in their campaigns.
He has observed that political parties have become secretive in how they raise funds and therefore making it hard to enforce accountability because such funds are usually privately sourced.
