Grand Coalition against bill to protect remaining phase of constitution making process

The Grand Coalition on the people driven constitution says it totally disagrees with the move by government to prepare a bill that will protect and guide the remaining phases of the constitution making process.

Grand Coalition Chairperson Father Leonard Chiti has told QFM News that coming up with a bill at this late stage to guide the remaining phases of the constitution making process does not guarantee a people driven constitution, especially that the PF Government has decided to go it’s on way instead of building consensus before taking amendments to parliament.

Fr Chiti says the putting in place of a legal framework to guide the constitution making process should have happened at the very beginning of the process.

Father Chiti says government should accept that lack of legal framework in place has led to all the consequences being seen now in the constitution making process.

He has accused government of trying to impose its own ideas on the majority Zambian people by tearing apart the document to suit its own interests.

Fr Chiti states that government should always bear in mind that Zambians need a people driven constitution that will stand a test of time.

Father Chiti says Grand Coalition will remain resolute in pushing for a popular mode of adopting the new constitution that will stand test of time.
