Mongu municipal council advises consumers to check for expiry date of products

Mongu Municipal Council has appealed to shop owners in the district to always check the expiry dates for the products they are selling to the public.

Council Public Relations Officer Lusale Kaseba says the council in conjunction with the Zambia Bureau of Standards and the ministry of Health has in the past one month been carrying out operations to check for expired products.

Ms. Kaseba says what they found is that some food items did not have expiry dates which prompted the council working with the Zambia Bureau of Standards to seize the products.

She states that it is an offence to display products especially food items meant for consumption without an expiry date.

Ms. Kaseba has further advised consumers to ensure they check for the expiry date whenever they purchase an item always report to the council, the ministry of health or the competition and consumer protection whenever they buy expired or items without expiry dates.
