I’m willing to give Zambians constitution through referendum – Lungu

EDGAR CL P

Republican President Edgar Lungu has reemphasized that he is willing to give Zambians a new constitution through a referendum, but that Zambians should understand the cost implications of a referendum.

Speaking when he held a meeting with over 25 Chiefs from Southern Province at State House this afternoon, President Lungu says he is willing to give Zambians what they want in form of a constitution.

President Lungu adds that he will support the decision taken by Chiefs regarding Article 296 in the draft constitution considering that the traditional leadership has raised concerns over the article.

President Lungu says if Zambians want to go to a referendum, he will give them want they want, but that it must be noted that it’s an expensive process that requires a lot of money.

And the Head of State has also reiterated that he will not entertain tribalism under his reign.

He says it is true that some politicians perpetrate tribalism by asking the traditional leadership and the people to support them on account that they are of the same tribe.

President Lungu adds that it must be seen from his appointments in government offices that he does not appoint on tribal lines but on quality.

President Lungu says the traditional leadership must therefore reject individuals peddling tribalism in the country.
