Govt is not honoring freedom fighters – Masheke

Former Prime Minister under the UNIP government Malimba Masheke has observed that government has failed to honor freedom fighters.

General Masheke is concerned that freedom fighters that helped to liberate Zambia from colonial rule are today treated as if they committed a crime.

General Masheke who is also retired Zambia Army Commander has referred to the medal that government gives to a freedom fighter it honors on special occasions as only a piece of metal.

The retired Army general has wondered what value a piece metal can have on the life of an ageing freedom fighter.

Asked what he thinks freedom fighters should be instead honored with, General Masheke has told Qfm News in an interview that government already knows what freedom fighters want and need.

He states that as a freedom fighter and a member of the first Zambian government he is aware of the proposals that freedom fighters have put before government.
