ECZ’s Postponing of voter registration is a sign – Grand Coalition tells govt

Government has been cautioned to use the postponement of voter registration as a sign of what will happen if a constitution referendum runs alongside 2016 general elections.

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has postponed the dates for the commencement of the voter registration exercise, which was scheduled to start on the 17th of August, to the 14th of September this year owing to delays in the procurement of equipment and materials for the exercise.

Spokesperson MacDonald Chipenzi says his coalition is against government’s plan because it does not want the country to have trouble but have a smooth election process and a smooth referendum process.

Mr. Chipenzi has told Qfm News his Coalition does not understand why government has insisted on its path when it is already clear that confusion is underway.

The Grand Coalition spokesperson states that with such total confusion it is now obvious to his Coalition that the Patriotic Front (PF) government appears to be thriving on confusion

He says the PF government must however be caged in a way that it does not go beyond the limits by all stakeholders being vigilant at stopping its alleged troublesome path it has set to enact the country’s new constitution.
