Africa Freedom Day commemorated in Brazil

The exhibition of African food from all the corners of the Continent characterized this year’s Africa Day celebrations in Brazil.

For Zambia, Nshima with sardins and caterpillars, together with sweet-potatoes cooked with pounded groundnuts were the main foods guests simply found irresistible.

Those who tasted these delicacies quickly spread message to others who did not need a second invitation to walk to the Zambia table to have a taste of their own.

The other foods on offer were offals, village-chicken and vegetables with pounded groundnuts among others.

After the feeding aspect had been taken care of, the dance floor was opened featuring selected Africa songs randomly selected by disc-jokers based in Brazil.

For Zambia the lyrics which made the rounds and drew the people to the dance floor were Perfecto and Sikiriti – the former leading dancers to take on the format of a ballroom dance, while the latter took the mode of mwamenewaimvelela (dance as you feel like) – both done by the artist popularly known as B1.

A Malawian diplomat was heard interpreting the meaning of lyrics sung in Nyanja – a language shared between Zambia and his country – to his Brazilian colleagues and other guests.

The main event at ClubeAeronautica, in Brasilia last Friday was supplemented by other activities which went beyond the Africa Day commemoration date, such as African cinematographic works shown in selected cinemas.

This is according to a statement released to Qfm News by the first secretary for press at the Zambian mission Brazil Patson Chilemba.
