ECZ likely face a challenge in 2016 – Grand Coalition

The Grand Coalition on the people driven constitution in Eastern Province has observed that the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is likely to face a huge challenge in handling the 2016 tripartite election alongside the referendum on the constitution considering that this will entail having four ballot papers.

Grand Coalition Eastern province Chairperson Maxson Nkhoma says this is evident from 20th January Presidential election where the ECZ took longer than expected to announce the final results of the election when people were only voting for the president.

Mr. Nkhoma wonders how many days it will take the ECZ to count votes for general election and the referendum.

He says the referendum may suffer a huge setback as it will receive less attention from the Government and other stakeholders whose interest will be centered on Political Campaigns and not a referendum.

And Mr. Nkhoma has questioned the move by the government to hurriedly name and appoint members of the referendum commission.
