ZRST introduces road safety policies

The Zambian Road Safety Trust has proposed the introduction of work related road safety policies by transporters including bus owners that will protect their employees and the traveling public.

ZRST Chairman Daniel Mwamba says his organization is concerned with the increase in the number of bus related accidents with high numbers of fatalities.

Mr Mwamba has accused some transporters of only being interested in making profits at the expense of the safety of their drivers and passengers.

He says work related road safety should also be a priority for transporters for legal, societa, reputational, financial and efficiency reasons.

Mr Mwamba adds that government through the Road Transport and Safety Agency needs support from the private organizations to curb the over 2,000 accident related deaths that occur every year on Zambian roads.
