UNESCO hails Govt efforts in education sector

United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Southern Africa Regional Director Hubert Gilzen has commended the Zambian government for its efforts in prioritizing the education sector.

Speaking this morning when he paid a courtesy call on Education Minister Micheal Kaingu at his office, Professor Gilzen notes that Zambia has made tremendous progress in the education sector, stating that all the indicators in the sector look good.

He also notes that government has also shown commitment to ensuring that the education sector gets a reasonable allocation in the national budget which he says is the best way to invest in the country’s education system.

Professor Gilzen explains that UNESCO has keen interest to help the Zambian government in addressing the challenges being faced in the education sector for the benefit of the future generation and the country at large.

And Education Minister Micheal Kaingu has appealed to UNESCO to help train more teachers in information communication technologies (ICTs) skills.

Dr. Kaingu says government has also embarked on programmes aimed at equipping teachers with more knowledge on the importance of ICTs because the world is changing with technology.
