Zambia’s economy, mixed and inconsistent – Finke

The Zambia’s current economic picture has been described as being mixed and inconsistent.

German Ambassador Bern Finke has observed that while Zambia’s economy is projected to be one of the highest growing economies in Africa, he has taken note of the alarming fiscal and budget situation of the country following the depreciation of its currency the Kwacha.

Mr. Finke has told Qfm News in an interview that much as he is not an economist he thinks that what appears needs to be done in the country is sustaining strong budgetary discipline and accountability.

He says there is also need for more progress in diversifying the economy by coming up with a coherent strategy.

The German envoy states that this is besides developing an implementation plan that asks the question on how to better and more speedily exploit Zambia’s potential in the Agriculture, Tourism and Energy sectors.

He advised that what that could additionally help the country is further accelerating local government reforms and decentralization.
