Mwanajiti guides on constitution making process

Governance Expert Ngande Mwanajiti says stakeholders pushing for the enactment of a new constitution must be reasonable enough so that the process moves well.

Addressing journalists during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Mr. Mwanajiti says it is normal in a democracy to have various interest groups taking position and defending such positions.

Mr. Mwanajiti says advocacy work must be fair, reasonable and balanced adding that the use of statistics which seek to sway public opinion is negation of good governance in favor of small powerful interest groups.

He says the greatest challenge that Zambians have is to either adopt the constitution through a referendum or enact it through parliament saying there is need to reach a consensus over this issue.

Mr. Mwanajiti states that there is need as a matter of urgency to deal with issue of seasoned and respected opinions on the political question around nationhood.
