ZAM backs Miles Sampa

The Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) says it supports Commerce,Trade and Industry deputy Minister Miles Sampa’s call for local farmers to begin supplying chain stores instead of importing what local farmers can supply.

ZAM President Bright Chunga says the importation of most food produce is a deliberate policy by the South African chain stores to promote their own produce.

Dr. Chunga says Zambian manufacturers and farmers have the ability to supply to these chain stores if they are given opportunities to do so.

He states that government should follow up and ensure the directive is implemented in order to help create job opportunities for the people of Zambia and lead to the reduction of the high poverty levels in the country.

Dr. Chunga says Zambia should not be used as a dumping ground by other countries.

He says the country should only import what it can’t produce.
