Prisons will be decongested within 5 years – Suwali

PrisonersGovernment has projected that prisons in the country would have been decongested in the next five years.

Ministry of Home Affairs Spokesperson Moses Suwali says overcrowding in prisons remains one of the serious challenges facing the Zambia Prisons Service.

Mr. Moses Suwali says government is doing everything possible to ensure that prisons are decongested.

He however states that in as much as government is trying to decongest prisons, people should also resist the temptation of committing crimes which is contributing to congestion in prisons.

Mr Suwali says in an effort to mitigate the challenge of congestion in prisons, government has embarked on the construction of new prisons and is going a step further by creating a proper sanitary environment so that prisons befit humans.
