Nchelenge district hit by shortage of Mealie Meal

Nakonde district of Muchinga Province has received a total of 24,501 bags of D’ Compound and 24,501 bags of Urea fertilizer.

This has cheered farmers in the district and they are happy with the early flagging-off of the 2015/16 Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) inputs delivery exercise.

The Ministry of Agriculture and livestock has already finished delivering the whole consignment of farming inputs for Nakonde district for the coming 2015/2016 farming season.

The flagging-off ceremony was held three weeks ago in Nakonde and was graced by the Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Agriculture And Livestock, Maxus Ng’onga.

The elated farmers who attended the ceremony observed that this latest development where the seasonal FISP inputs delivery exercise is being flagged off as early as May is unprecedented.

Meanwhile, Nchelenge district has been hit by shortage of Mealie Meal.

The shortage has been caused by low electricity voltage which has made milling companies in the Province to fail to produce the commodity.

The shortage has caused an increase in Mealie Meal prices with Breakfast-Meal moving from K65 to K80 per 50kg while Roller Meal is going at K70 per 25kg.
