Senior Chief Nsokolo of the Mambwe speaking people in Mbala district has expressed fears that some foreigners may obtain the National Registration Cards if security is not intensified to verify information.
Senior Chief Nsokolo said there is need to involve local traditional leadership to help in verifying information of their subjects seeking to obtain the NRC’s using village registers.
The traditional leaders said officers conducting the exercise need to involve the village headmen in identifying foreigners from across the neighbouring Tanzania who have inter-married with the Zambians.
Senior Chief Nsokolo was speaking when Acting District Commissioner, Felix Mungaila paid a courtesy call on him during his spot check on the on-going mobile issuance of NRC’s yesterday.
And Mr. Mungaila assured the traditional leader that security to thoroughly screen people seeking to obtain the document has been put in place.
He said government is aware of the porous borders of some areas bordering Tanzania and security has been intensified to ensure that only Zambians are issued with the NRC’s.
