EAZ explain failure of wildlife policy

The Economic Association of Zambia (EAZ) has linked failure of the wildlife policy to inconsistency in its implementation.

EAZ President Chrispin Mphuka says as a consequence, the growth of the wildlife sector has been minimal.

Dr. Mphuka states that the hope of the EAZ therefore, is that once a new wildlife policy is formulated, its implementation will be consistent.

He says it is only then that the wildlife sector will also see increased investment.

Dr. Mphuka was speaking this morning at a wildlife Policy review workshop in Lusaka organized by the Economic Association Zambia in collaboration with the Natural Resources Consultation Forum (NRCF).

The workshop is meant to come up with a new wildlife Policy that will among others aim at ensuring sustainable conservation of wildlife in Zambia as well as maximize economic benefits from the country’s wildlife.

And Finance Deputy Minister Christopher Mvunga has called for the strengthening of the various governance structures of the wildlife sector.

Mr. Mvunga has also called for the need to strengthen governance structures of the sector at national, provincial, district and community levels.

He notes that participation of communities in conservation areas is key to the implementation of any new policy measures.
