Tazanian national nabbed for trafficking in 480 grams

The Drug Enforcement Commission in Lusaka has arrested a Tanzanian national for trafficking in 480 grams of heroin.

Commission Public Relations Officer Theresa Katongo in a statement says Ibrahim Malango, 39, of Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania was intercepted in Chirundu District.

Ms Katono says also arrested in Lusaka District is Joseph Zimba, 21, of Kamanga Compound for trafficking in five (05) sachets of heroin and an 18 year old boy of kamanga Compound for being in possession of one sachet of heroin.

Meanwhile, the Drug Enforcement Commission has arrested 65 people countrywide for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.

Those arrested and jointly charged include Peter Kasongo, 44, a Peasant farmer of boyi village in Chembe District and Mark Kalaba, 32, a Peasant farmer of Musaba village in Samfya District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 463.2kg.

Also arrested and jointly charged in Luapula Province is Kennedy Sampa, 24, a Peasant farmer of Mupofwe village in Kasama District and James Lunkonena, 29, of the same abode for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 308kg.

Others arrested include Micheal Kaanga, 35 of Mingeli area in Kabompo District for trafficking in 12.5kg of loose cannabis, Fredrick Mulenga, 47, a Businessman of Mwapona Compound in Choma District for trafficking in 6.9kg of loose cannabis and Laban Ngosa, 30, a Peasant farmer of Malekani village in Chinsali District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 10.5kg.

And in Eastern Province, the Commission has arrested Henry Zimba, 49, of Kanyangwa area in Chipata District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 21kg, Cephas Phiri, 24, a Peasant farmer of Saiwala village in Mambwe District for trafficking in 16kg of loose cannabis and Moffat Mbewe, 37, a Peasant farmer of Chiyembekezo village in Chipata District for trafficking in 19kg of loose cannabis.
